I happen to enjoy the bitterness of that vegetable. I like the dishes they serve for Mara in Thailand. They come in sweat and sour. They even cook Mara in Spicy variants. It is good for the health.

@ClubPenguinCheats - even beyond cooking methods, i've noticed some bittermelons are more bitter than others. hope the next try is better!

I liked them at first, then I was assaulted with a bitterness I couldn't get rid of!

Yeah I loved this scrambled with eggs! I used to hate it, but now I love it. I still don't know why. I grew up on "C" hamporado. Can't wait to see what C will be!

I have only had some bittermelon chips that I bought in the mall in Hilo. I liked them at first, then I was assaulted with a bitterness I couldn't get rid of! Haven't had it again. Maybe you can suggest something to break my palate in more gently...

Hey Aileen! Wow I've never heard of fresh ampalaya put into a salad! I'm gonna have to try that!

I love your kitchen kwentos!!! I'm gonna have to feature it on 5er while we haven't done a video together yet! heeee!

Kitchen Kwento

thanks Jaime! how are YOU by the way? :) from the responses I've heard it sounds like ampalaya + meat or ampalaya + scrambled eggs just may be the gateway drug to bittermelon.

I *love* bitter melon - my mom makes a great Chinese bitter melon dish with pork ribs which I hated as a child but grew to love as an adult. I *love* your blog, Aileen.
